Getting a PPS number

Your PPS (Personal Public Service) number is your reference number for work, tax, social welfare, health services and more. You need one before you start a job or claim any payment.

  1. Apply online on MyWelfare.ie. You will need a basic MyGovID account (free).
  2. You will be given an appointment at a PPS / Intreo centre.
  3. Bring your documents to the appointment (see the list on this page).
  4. Your number usually arrives by post within a few days.

Keep your PPS number safe — you will be asked for it often. Never share it with someone you don’t trust.
